A quick warning: its SPAM. Seriously, it really is SPAM. Now, I’m not one of those people that eat SPAM with everything and while I LOVE Monty Python this recipe was not inspired by their skit. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=anwy2MPT5RE

And now for something completely different:

You will need…

12 oz can of SPAM

8 oz can of Pinapple Slices

6 (heaping) tbsp Brown Sugar

1 tsp of Wondra

Aluminum Foil

1 Bread pan

1 small saucepan

  • Preheat your oven to 400 degrees (F), while that is heating up open the can of SPAM on to a plate so that it is laying on its side.
  • Cut 6 – 8 slices along the flat side to about 3/4 of the way through.
  • Open the Pineapple Slices and pour the juice into the saucepan (turn eye to Medium), add the 6 (heaping) tbsp Brown Sugar.
  • Cut the Pineapple Slices in half; take one half slice and slide it into the slit you cut into the SPAM.
  • Wrap the SPAM in the Foil so it fits nicely into the breadpan. Its best to lay the SPAM in the middle of the foil and fold the four edges up – we will be putting the sauce in shortly.
  • Once SPAM is wrapped and in the pan place in the oven total cook time is about 30 mins – afterall, we’re just warming it up.
  • Back to the sauce, once it starts to bubble put in the Wondra (or flour, starch, etc..) to thicken the sauce.
  • Place sauce in the foil pouch the SPAM is in and let it cook until time is up.
  • Once the time is up, fold back the foil from around the TOP of the SPAM and adjust oven to BROIL (just long enough to brown the top).

Personally, I don’t eat this very often anymore but the kids LOVE it…seriously, its sweet and salty.

Give it a try, even if you have your doubts you really could be surprised.
